Report: Prof. Maurits Van Rooijen, Chairman, World Association for Cooperative Education, visits UEC

Prof. Maurits Van Rooijen visited UEC on August 21, 2015. He served the University of Westminster, UK, as the Vice President and he received the Queen's Awards for Enterprise twice, for his contribution to the globalization of the university. He has also performed the top management of many world level universities including Leiden University (Netherlands), Cambridge University (UK), University of London (UK), Victoria University (Australia), and Compostela Group of Universities (Spain) combining 67 universities in Europe and America, and he now serves Global University Systems with the alliance of 20 universities over the world, as the CEO. He also serves, as the Chairman, World Association for Cooperative Education (WACE, Boston, USA), which has been evolved with the support of U.S. Department of State and he visited UEC on the occasion of attendance at Board Meeting of WACE and the 19th WACE World Conference on Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education, which was held at Kyoto Sangyo University in Kyoto on August 18-21, 2015.
During his visit, consecutively after the courtesy call to Prof. Takashi FUKUDA, the President of UEC, he gave a speech focused on the trend of globalization of universities in Europe, referred to the world trend of the so-called “Cooperative Education” based on university curricula, and discussed the relevant issues with the attendants. He has contributed to the promotion of higher education in Europe and he was also devoted to the research on the Green urbanization in the University of Westminster, which pioneered the current studies of “Smart City” bringing the resource consumption reduction, and he referred to the interesting long-year historical relations between Japan and his mother country, the Netherlands, over the past 200 years or more.
