Coordinated Center for UEC Research Facilities

Overview

The Coordinated Center for UEC Research Facilities consists of three departments: the Basic Research Equipment Department, the Division of Advanced Research Facilities, and the Cryogenic Center. Each department engages in intensive operation and management of large-scale facilities and basic equipment.

The Division of Key Research Facilities is to provide and manage basic research facilities and equipment and support educational and research activities both within and outside the university through the promotion of the effective use of those facilities and equipment. The department maintains an open facility reservation system that makes it easy to use facilities and equipment such as electron microscopes, nuclear magnetic resonance apparatuses, mass spectrometers, and three-dimensional shape measurement and evaluation systems.

The Division of Advanced Research Facilities consists of three sections: the Advanced Materials and Devices Section, the Precision Instrument Measurement and Robot Section, and the Optical and Bio Section. To facilitate the research and development of electronic and optical devices, nanotechnology, robots, and the like, these sections provide clean rooms and other facilities and equipment for creating, processing, and evaluating state-of-the-art materials. The Division of Advanced Research Facilities provides support to ensure that its facilities and equipment are used effectively to promote cutting-edge research and startup company formation and growth within the university.

the Cryogenic Center provides liquid nitrogen (which has a boiling point of -196°C) and liquid helium (which has a boiling point of -269°C) as cryogens for experiments and provides technical support regarding the use of cryogens. In particular, helium, which is completely imported, is reused through the collection and reliquefaction of evaporative emissions. The above cryogens are used in a wide variety of applications, including the evaluation of the physical properties of new materials.
