International exchange : UEC Students Deepen Ties with Local Families through "Weekend Homestay Program"

2025.12.26

From Saturday, December 13 to Sunday, December 14, seven international students from the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) participated in the "Weekend Homestay Program". This program was organized by the Hippo Family Club (LEX Institute). The primary goal of this initiative is to allow international students to experience Japanese family culture firsthand and to foster mutual understanding through direct interaction with local host families

Opening Ceremony

On the first day, an opening ceremony was held at the UEC 80th Anniversary Hall to introduce the students to their host families. Although participants were a bit nervous at first, they quickly broke the ice through recreational activities, and the hall was soon filled with smiles and lively conversation.

Experiencing "Daily Life in Japan"

After the ceremony, the students departed with their respective host families. Over the two-day stay, they experienced the "authentic daily life of Japan"--something rarely found in typical sightseeing tours--and enjoyed meaningful cultural exchange that transcended language barriers.

About the Organizer: Hippo Family Club

The Hippo Family Club (LEX Institute) is a non-profit organization that explores the science of language and humanity through "multilingual natural acquisition" and international exchange. The host families are active members who enjoy multilingual activities and value sharing cultures to deepen understanding of both themselves and others

Future outlook

UEC remains committed to collaborating with local communities and support organizations to provide international students with diverse opportunities to engage deeply with Japanese culture and society.
