On January 15, 2026, the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) concluded an Agreement for Academic Exchange and Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on Student Exchange with Dr. Yanga's Colleges Inc. (DYCI), Philippines. This marks the first time that UEC has established an international exchange agreement with a university in the Philippines.
The signing ceremony was held at UEC and was attended by a delegation of six faculty members from DYCI, led by its President, Mr. Michael S. Yanga. DYCI previously visited UEC in May 2025, and the conclusion of this agreement builds upon the mutual exchanges and discussions fostered through that earlier visit. Dr. Natsuko Uchida, a graduate of UEC and currently affiliated with Ferris University, also attended the ceremony. Dr. Uchida led the DYCI delegation during their visit in May 2025 and has played an important role as a liaison in facilitating exchanges between UEC and DYCI.
From UEC, five representatives participated in the ceremony, including Dr. Kazuaki Oya, Member of the Board of Directors (International and Public Relations Strategy).
The ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr. Oya, followed by remarks from Mr. Michael S. Yanga on behalf of the DYCI delegation. This was followed by an overview of UEC presented by Dr. Oya, and an introduction of DYCI by Dr. Roger Carlo P. Pineda, Director for Internationalization (OSP-LINKX). An active exchange of views then took place regarding the educational and research strengths of both institutions and the potential for future collaboration.
Following the signing ceremony, the DYCI delegation met with Professor Yasuhiro Minami, Director of the Advanced Intelligence eXchange (AIX) Center at UEC, who also attended the signing ceremony. During the meeting, they exchanged views on cutting-edge research and initiatives, received an introduction to Professor Minami's research fields, and toured related research facilities.
Through this agreement, it is expected that educational and research exchanges between the two universities will be further promoted, contributing to the development of highly skilled professionals who will play leading roles in the next generation.
