The Office for the Promoting Practical Communication Education, in collaboration with the Chofu City Western Community Center, held a "World Cooking Class" on Sunday, September 27, to provide a space for residents and international students to interact and share culture.
Ms. Puthanveettil Bhavya, an international student at the University of Electro-Communications from India (Third-year Ph.D. student in the department of Engineering Science), served as the instructor. Together with interpreter Junichi Acharya (second-year master's student in the department of Engineering Science), she led 15 participants, selected from 74 applicants, in preparing Indian home-style dishes (Keralam-style chicken cutlets and masala chai).
After cooking, the participants learned about Indian culture and customs, while tasting the dishes. Participants shared comments such as, "It was very delicious with a nice kick of spices," and "It was great to learn about Indian festivals." Thanks to Bhavya's warm and friendly personality, with Junichi's translation from English to Japanese, the day brought India closer to everyone.
The Office for Education for Practical Communication is working to foster community partnerships and organize guest lectures by international students at our university.
