On Saturday, September 5, 2026, the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) hosted "The 13th UEC Seminar in ASEAN 2026," inviting researchers, executives, and officials from partner institutions, government agencies, and companies in the ASEAN region with which UEC has long maintained research and educational collaborations. The seminar was held at Multimedia University (MMU), a partner university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The theme of this year's UEC Seminar was "Shaping the Future: UEC-ASEAN Collaboration in Innovation and Global Engagement," aiming to further accelerate future-oriented collaboration between UEC and the ASEAN region by bringing stakeholders together under one roof.
The UEC Seminar in ASEAN is an annual event organized by the UEC ASEAN Center for Educational and Research Cooperation (UAREC), held in the ASEAN region since 2015. Marking its 13th iteration, this seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, centered at the venue while connecting with online participants.
The seminar commenced with opening speeches by Prof. Kitswan, Director of UAREC, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, President of MMU, and Dr. Muramatsu, President of UEC, followed by guest speeches from a representative of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia as well as representatives from partner universities and research institutions in the ASEAN region. Subsequently, Vice President Uraki (in charge of International and Public Relations Strategy) delivered a presentation introducing UEC's history, distinctive features in education and research, international partnerships, and student exchanges. The program also included presentations introducing research exchanges between UEC and the ASEAN region, along with program overviews from organizations operating in ASEAN, such as JSPS, JST, and NICT. The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Vice President Uraki.
The event gathered more than 70 participants both on-site and online, including representatives from universities, corporations, and government-affiliated organizations across ASEAN countries. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all speakers and attendees who joined and presented at the venue and online. Building upon these ongoing exchanges, further advancements in educational and research collaboration between the ASEAN region and UEC are strongly anticipated.
