On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the ASEAN Center for Educational Research and Support at the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) co-hosted an international workshop titled "The 8th ASEAN UEC Workshop on Informatics and Engineering" at Multimedia University (MMU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in collaboration with the ECTI (Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications, and Information) Association of Thailand. Co-organized with ECTI, which is actively engaged across the region, this workshop has been held annually since 2019 to provide students from the ASEAN region and UEC with opportunities to present at international academic conferences.
In the first half of the workshop, five invited speakers delivered engaging presentations on their respective research, representing Malaysia (3), Thailand (1), and Japan (1).
Between the first and second sessions, a laboratory tour was held under the guidance of Dr. Foo Yee Loo of Multimedia University. A group of 19 participants, including faculty, staff, and students from UEC, visited the Smart Farm and AI Design Lab, getting a firsthand look at cutting-edge research.
The second half featured video presentations alongside 24 poster presentations (11 from Malaysia, 5 from Thailand, 1 from Vietnam, and 7 from Japan) given by students and early-career researchers from ASEAN and UEC. Following the poster session, the "Young Researchers Encouragement Award" was presented to students who delivered poster presentations on-site.
With over 50 attendees, the workshop proved to be a valuable event that offered students from the ASEAN region and UEC practical experience presenting at an international conference.
