Overview

Japan-India Smart Technology Talent Development Platform for Society 5.0

The objective of this program is to foster global science and technology personnel who possess strengths in both cyber and physical spaces, aiming for the realization of Society 5.0. In collaboration with educational and research institutions in India—a country with a highly developed IT industry and a central role in the Global South—we will establish a "Smart Technology Human Resource Development Platform" to cultivate young talents from both Japan and India from the early stages of their undergraduate education.

I. Specific Initiatives of the Program

This program develops its activities centered around the following four pillars.

① International Education Curriculum Utilizing the Co-creative Evolution Smart Education System at the Undergraduate Level

We will introduce our university's unique, immersive "UEC Co-creative Evolution Smart Education System" to provide quality-assured international education that integrates online learning with physical laboratory courses.

② Interdisciplinary Double Degree Program at the Graduate Level

We will establish a new "Interdisciplinary Double Degree Program" that fuses information science and manufacturing (Monozukuri) engineering to cultivate practical skills tailored to solving challenges in a super-smart society. We will also introduce certificate and micro-credential systems to visualize and certify short-term learning outcomes.

③ Collaborative Learning Program through English-taught Laboratory Courses

Practical and experiential courses will be newly offered in English to establish an "Information × Monozukuri Collaborative Learning Program" for undergraduate students from Japan and India. Additionally, we will conduct an "Information × Monozukuri Global PBL (Project-Based Learning)," where students from both countries will collaborate to solve social issues.

④ Career Support for Domestic Leading Companies and Japanese Companies Operating in India

We will develop international internships at Japanese companies operating in India, providing both outbound and inbound students with work experiences that involve real business challenges. Furthermore, we will offer business Japanese language education specializing in science and engineering terminology to strongly support international students in finding employment and settling in leading companies in Japan.

II. Background and Objectives of the Program

To realize Society 5.0, which Japan envisions, it is crucial to strengthen partnerships with India, the world's most populous country boasting a highly advanced IT industry. Our university is a leading national science and technology university with strengths in all academic fields necessary to realize the human-centric society envisioned by Society 5.0. By implementing this program, we aim to fuse India's advanced IT technology and academic research with our university's unique characteristics. This will establish a smart technology human resource development platform with mutual strengths in both cyber and physical (real-world) spaces, aiming to produce the next generation of smart technology talents for the world.

III. Human Resource Development Goals

We will mutually develop "Global Smart Technology Talents" in Japan and India who embody "Information × Monozukuri," the core of Society 5.0.
Specifically, we aim to cultivate individuals possessing the following four competencies.

  1. Global Mindset: An international perspective fostered through international education from early undergraduate stages, enabling adaptation to diverse environments.
  2. Broad Scientific and Technological Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge acquired from cutting-edge information and communication science (cyber) and the foundations of manufacturing engineering (physical).
  3. Innovation Co-creation Ability: The collaborative capacity to cross disciplinary boundaries and create new value.
  4. Practical Applicability: Practical application skills in the real world, cultivated through solving the challenges of a super-smart society.
