[Report] Visit of New Zealand Business Council Representatives and Aurecon Members to the University of Electro-Communications (UEC)

2024.11.15

On Friday, November 15, 2024, the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) hosted distinguished guests from the Japan New Zealand Business Council and Aurecon. Mr. Ian Kennedy, Chairman of the New Zealand Committee of the Japan New Zealand Business Council, Ms. Rebecca Mehrtens from Aurecon New Zealand, and Mr. Hiroshi Kuwata from Aurecon Australia visited UEC to discuss potential collaborative opportunities.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome from UEC President Dr. Shunichi Tano. Following the greetings, the group participated in a formal photograph session before beginning a productive discussion session. UEC representatives included Dr. Kazuaki Oya, Member of the Board of Directors for International and Public Relations Strategy, Mr. Kazuaki Minami, Senior Coordinator at the Center for Industrial and Governmental Relations, Dr. Takanobu Higuchi, Chief URA at the Center for Industrial and Governmental Relations, and Associate Professor Hiroki Furukawa of the Internship Promotion Office.

The discussion included an overview of the Center for Industrial and Governmental Relations and UEC Prime, and UEC's Internship Program, highlighting the university's commitment to fostering industry-academic connections through practical experiences for students. The presentations were followed by an open discussion, where both UEC and the New Zealand representatives exchanged views on potential collaborative projects and internship opportunities. Aurecon is engaged in energy-related business, and it is expected to collaborate with relevant centers at UEC and participate in UEC Prime.

This visit underscores UEC's ongoing commitment to strengthening international partnerships, especially in the Oceania region. On November 26, 2024, UEC plans to host the third "UoA/UEC Trans Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering" in New Zealand in collaboration with the University of Auckland. President Tano and Dr. Oya will also visit universities in New Zealand to further solidify these valuable ties.
