Report:Visit to New Zealand by President Tano and Director Oya

Hosted the Trans-Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering 2024 and concluded an academic exchange agreement with the University of Auckland in New Zealand

On November 26, 2024, 'Trans-Pacific Symposium on Advanced Science and Engineering 2024' co-hosted by the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) and the University of Auckland (UoA), was held at UoA as a hybrid. Consul General of Japan at Auckland, Mr. Shinji Matsui, attended the symposium and gave his greetings. The symposium featured lectures by Professor Yasuhiro Minami of the Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, UEC, Professor Patrice Delmas of UoA, and Professor Bing Xu of Victoria University of Wellington, as well as presentations by young researchers and graduate students from a wide range of scientific and engineering fields. The symposium is planned to be held again in the future with more participating institutions.

The signing ceremony for the academic exchange agreement between UEC and the UoA took place during the symposium. Following the ceremony, President Dr Tano and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Engagement) Dr Erik Lithander expressed their expectations for further exchange between the two universities. This agreement is expressed their hopes for research exchange, improve the quality of research, and promote further internationalization.

On November 27, 2024, President Tano and other members of UEC, paid a courtesy visit to Consul General Matsui at the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland. President Tano expressed his gratitude to Consul-General Matsui for the previous day's visit and explained the UEC's vision for collaboration with New Zealand, gaining his understanding and support.

Director Oya and his team preceded President Tano to New Zealand, where they visited Otago Polytechnic and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. They discussed the possibility of future collaboration between UEC and each institution. At Victoria University of Wellington, one of partner universities, they discussed the possibility of sending students, joint research by faculty members, and mutual training of administrative staff. They have also visited other private companies that may be interested in accepting UEC's students as interns or in joint research, and have received positive feedback.

Taking the opportunity of the symposium and visits to universities, private companies, and the Consulate-General of Japan, UEC will further promote collaboration with New Zealand.
