Ki Bong Lee

Ki Bong Lee received his BS (1976) and MS (1978) from Department of Physics at Seoul National University, and PhD (1985) from Department of Physics at University of Pennsylvania. He moved to the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1985 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. In 1987 he returned to Korea as an Assistant Professor at Department of Physics, Pohang University of Science and Technology. He became an Associate Professor in 1991 and Professor in 1998. He participated in the Pohang Light Source (PLS) project, Korean Synchrotron Radiation Facility, from the beginning stage. He led Task Force Team as its leader for planning the project until it was funded in 1988. He was Beamline Group Leader during its construction period between 1988 and 1995, and served as Beamline Division Head for two years after the facility began its operation as a national user facility in 1995. He was Assistant Director for Scientific Programs of the PLS in 2000-2004. He led Task Force Team for planning upgrade of the PLS, PLS-2, until it got funded in 2009. He established Korean Synchrotron Radiation Users Association in 1989. He was the former President of HANARO (Korean research reactor) Users Association, and he is currently the President of Korean Neutron Beam Users Association. He acts as Executive Committee member of Asia Oceania Neutron Scattering Association. His main research interests are characterization of thin films using resonant x-ray scattering and neutron scattering. His honors include The Prime Minister's Citation (1994) and The Korean Physical Society Award (2008).
